The Kalash people of northern Pakistan's Kalash Valley celebrate the Uchal festival with singing, dancing, and thanking nature for their barley and wheat harvest. Special foods like cheese, buttermilk, and corn bread are made, and women dance in traditional dresses during this three-day event in Rumbur Valley. The Kalash have unique customs, including not mourning death and placing the deceased in wooden boxes above ground. Kalash Valley, in Chitral District, has four main valleys: Mumuret/Bumburet, Rumbur, Acholgah, and Biriu. Bumburet is accessible by road from Ayun. Chitral Gol National Park, nearby, is known for rare wildlife like Markhor goats and Siberian ibex.
